Patrolman Clarence B. Campbell
EOW: Monday May 23, 1932
Cause of Death: Gunfire
Age: 44
Tour: 18 years
Patrolman Clarence Campbell was shot and killed while escorting a bank employee with $23,000 from one bank to another. As soon as they arrived at the bank one of four men removed a sawed-off shotgun from a box and killed Patrolman Campbell while the other three took the money.
Patrolman Campbell had served the NCPD for 18 years and was survived by his wife.
Police Officer John W. Edwards
EOW: Monday December 1, 1919
Cause of Death: Assualt
Age: 73
Tour: 11 years
Officer Edwards died approximately two months after being struck kin the head with a brick. Officer Edwards was attempting to keep the peace at a union strike which turned violent. One of the strikers threw a brick which struck him in the head. He suffered from severe headaches which eventually caused paralysis and his death.
Officer Edwards had been with the NCPD for 11 years and was survived by his wife and two children.
Patrol Officer James Cucia
EOW: Thursday May 2, 1918
Cause of Death: Gunfire
Age: 32
Officer James Cucia was shot and killed while he was attempting to arrest four suspects who were posing as federal agents selling Liberty Bonds. The suspects were also in the process of robbing a local rooming house when the shooting took place. Officer Cucia was able to return fire killing one of the suspects.
The other three suspects caught a train to Youngstown, Ohio, where they shot if out with police who cornered them in an alley. One suspect was killed. The other two escaped.
Officer Cucia was survived by his wife and two children.
Patrol Officer Thomas Thomas
EOW: Thursday March 27, 1913
Cause of Death: Drowned
Age: 38
Tour: 1 year
Officer Thomas drowned while assisting in rescue attempts after the Shenango River flooded. While visiting one of the flood zones, the boat Officer Thomas was riding in capsized. Officer Thomas had been with the agency for one year and was survived by his wife and three children.
Patrol Officer Frank C. Skidmore
EOW: Wednesday August 17, 1904
Cause of Death: Gunfire
Age: 32
Tour: 1 month
Officer Skidmore was shot and killed as he attempted to arrest a suspect for the theft of some chickens. Officer Skidmore arrived at the man’s house and informed him he was to be placed under arrest. Hearing this, the suspect shot him. Officer Skidmore had been with the NCPD for six weeks and was survived by his wife and child.
